Preparations for planning

This decision should never be made without detailed consultation with a veterinarian!

We know what it's like when the life of a beloved animal comes to an end. The decision of whether and when to choose euthanasia is one of the most difficult we'll ever have to make. It's a moment when our hearts are broken and we wonder if we were right to feel so much love for the animal.

If the decision to euthanize has been made during this phase, further unpleasant tasks and decisions will be necessary. However, the animal should always be considered to ensure the process is as stress-free as possible.

Consider euthanasia at home; many veterinarians allow this and it is often the least stressful method for the animal.

Start thinking about your final resting place now:

  • For small animals, burial in the home garden is possible
  • There are more and more pet cemeteries that allow a dignified burial
  • an animal crematorium will give you a small urn with the ashes at the end
  • For the sake of completeness, there is also the option of having the animal disposed of by a veterinarian. Please consider whether this is appropriate for your relationship with your pet.

You'll need to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. This is usually available in the late afternoon, after the veterinarian has finished their consultation.
If you have chosen a pet undertaker, you must also inform them of the date; they will then pick up your pet and proceed according to your agreement.
